September Meeting

Description

We hope you'll join us at our September meeting. Aggie dads are also welcome to attend this meeting. Dinner and social time begins at 6:30 PM, followed by the meeting at 7:00 PM. Our featured speaker is Davey Griffin, Ph.D., a professor, extension meat specialist, and a member of the meat science section in the Department of Animal Science.

Davey Griffin, Ph.D., is a professor and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service meat science specialist in the Department of Animal Science. Dr. Griffin and two other "brisketeers" host Camp Brisket and Barbecue Summer Camp at Texas A&M. The term “brisketeer” is an unofficial nickname given to the three experts who have spent their careers dedicated to meat science, and the intersection of teaching, research and extension.

After receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University, Griffin accepted employment with Oscar Mayer Foods Corp. in Madison, WI. before returning to TAMU to complete his doctorate.

Griffin serves as a liaison between industry, commodity groups, medical and dietary professionals and Extension personnel to provide research information and technology. His key program and interest areas include cutability and composition of carcasses associated with value-based marketing, current consumer issues concerning meat and meat products, youth development and cooperative research projects.

Aggie Dads are welcome to join you for this meeting!

This should be an informative program about the TAMU Meat Science department, how they are developing the next generation of meat scientists and all the science that goes into your favorite cut of steak before it gets to your local grocery. And, you might learn a few tips to improve your BBQ technique.
